Some of you are probably familiar with LinkedIn. It’s like Facebook for business. Business Facebook describes it quite well, because it operates at the same low level as Facebook. However, it’s for business people who have ‘made it’ or at least think they have.
Anyway, if you want to connect in the business world, there’s no getting around this ridiculous platform. And even if the managers‘ platitudes are annoying, or the completely superfluous motivational quotes torture your brain, the worst thing about LinkedIn is the audio effects.
No matter what interaction is triggered, be it sending a ‘connect’ request, a new message or a notification, there is always some kind of sound effect.
I don’t think I need to mention that people who cause such intrusive functions should be fired immediately.
There’s hardly anything worse than audio effects on a website that start without being asked; except for videos with sound that start automatically. WTF? What’s wrong with you people?
In any case, most of it can be deactivated. Here’s how (at least as far as the web application is concerned; I don’t use the LinkedIn app – it’s completely unnecessary).
- On Top right click on your profile picture
- In the Account section, click on Settings & Privacy
- Your are now in Account Preferences
- In General Preferences section there is the entry Sound Effects
- Click on it and set the switch to Off
- Go back
- In General Preferences section there is the entry Autoplay Videos
- Click on it and set the switch to Off
- Go back
- Done
